Pop Art Espadrilles

So, I just hopped back on my blog here, and saw that Google AdSense has placed a few ads for Tom's Shoes. I'm not too much of a fan of Tom's Shoes, though I have not tried them on--they look like they may offer better support than your average espadrille, and, they donate shoes to children who need them. Very good.

But, I favor the traditional espadrille, for its casual, insouciant spirit. The ones I'm wearing here sport images inspired by the artist Roy Lichtenstein and in-your-face colors to go with the bold images. True traditional espadrilles, they have flat, rope soles. I probably ought to wear some kind of inserts with them to give me some support!

'Swingtown' Wedges

I'm still missing the short-lived TV show "Swingtown" from a couple of years back. It was set in 1976, and one of the characters, "Trina" (Swingtown Photos: Season 1 Episode 6 - seemed to always have the Best outfits. I imagine she would step out in a pair of wedges like these, or perhaps wear them to host a pool party.

Loafers at Tiffany's

These darling loafers from Anthropologie remind me of the sweet little blue boxes that come from you-know-where. I love that these are work-ready, but still Fun. Would be cool to wear these with contrasting colored tights in the winter.

Today's Shoes!

My Monday shoes are a pair of spectator-ish blush colored heels from Miss Me. I've had them for quite some time (got them on sale at Plasticland months ago), but hadn't worn them until today because I didn't have anything that went really well with them.

Thanks to a great sale at Banana Republic over the weekend, I scored a lovely dolman sleeved lace blouse from their Heritage line, with ruched sleeves and little ties on each sleeve. And, it is a beautiful blush color--perfect with the shoes!

Of course, given the vintage style of the shoe, I wish I had a champagne or blush-colored linen suit to wear with them, accessorized with cream gloves, a proper handbag, and a hat with a bit of netting. Now that would be snazzy!

A Neutral Shoe for Me

Nude-colored shoes have been a trend for quite a while now, but to date, I hadn't succumbed. I had tried on a few, but have never really been drawn to neutral colors, preferring instead shoes that are bright and shiny or black.

Yesterday my friend and I visited the Nordstrom's in San Francisco, and I found these Seychelles 'Second to None' Caged Sandal on clearance. Comfortable! The elastic straps keep the shoe on my foot, the peep-toe is enough to show off a nice pedi, and the color is a go-with-anything taupe. The shape of the heel really distributes your weight across the shoe length, so even though they are 3+ inches high, it doesn't feel like it. Because of the stacked-look heel, these are a bit more casual than a classic pump.

I'd wear these with jeans (of course!), khaki linen pants, olive colored clothes...if these "Caged Sandals" bring out the animal in you, then snap up a pair of these Seychelles quickly -- they are on sale now!

So, my quest for pink dress shoes was for a pink suit that I wanted to wear for a presentation. As you can see from my blog posts, the search for pink heels dates back a few months.

After a long search, I ended up buying these light grey Butter "Sugar" Pumps instead, as I knew they would work with the pink suit, but would also be more versatile.

Fast forward to June. The gym has not seen me in the last few months. Tried on pink suit. Too tight. Ugh. Presentation was the next day. Scrambled for a navy ruffle dress with matching blazer...well, at least I could breathe.

But what to shoe? Then I remembered the versatile grey heels. Slipping them on helped me nail that presentation. Whew!

Now I just have to get my butt to the gym more often.

The Search for Shoes--Outfit #2

Outfit #2 for which I'm looking for coordinating shoes is a long-sleeve cotton knit Desigual dress I got for my birthday (thanks Mom and Dad!). Boots work great with this dress, along with a fluffy oversized red scarf for winter, but it has been unseasonably warm the last several days and it makes me think ahead to warmer days. I know I'll want to wear this dress past the days when boots are in order.

The dress pictured here is very similar to mine. I'm really digging Poetic Licence's Summer Bloom heel (they are black on one side, cream on the other!) but they might not be quite right for this dress. Trinklettina by Irregular Choice? Or Beans on Toast? What do you think?

The Search for Pink Shoes...

The last few days I've been searching online for shoes to match two outfits. This breaks my usual M.O. of buying shoes first and then an outfit to match, so I'm having difficulty.

The first outfit is a blush pink crepe Tahari skirt suit, with 3/4 sleeves, four silver-tone filigree buttons, wide collar, and some nice pleating details on the pockets and back kick pleat. I still need to get the skirt shortened, as the overall look is a bit conservative for me, but I love the Jackie-Kennedy-esqueness of the look.

So, I'm thinking the shoes for this suit should be a heel, perhaps a kitten heel, lady-like, but not overly platform-y. T-strap or mary-jane would be ok. Oh, and they should be pink.

One of the possibilities was a pair of Prada heels. OK, yeah, so after I saw the price I kept searching...the best candidate within the realm of the affordable pictured here are the Butter heels. The others are mostly too pricey for my budget, or just not quite right.

Supreme Fabulousness...

These Betsey Johnson "Lacy" shoes came to me via a sale - popped in my email inbox one morning and BAM! - I had to have them.

Never mind that I had no occasion to wear these.
Never mind that these are taller than any other heels I own.
Never mind that I knew I wouldn't be able walk farther than a few blocks in these.
Never mind that I absolutely do not and did not need anymore shoes.

I still had to have them.

They have a flamboyant flower on the ankle.
They are t-straps.
They are leopard print.
They are fuchsia.
They match my bathroom.

Oh, Betsey Johnson, thank you for fun and fabulousness of shoe design!

Can't Wait for Spring

Last summer just didn't get warm enough for me to wear these lovelies very often. These cherry heels are in my category of "favorites." They are just calling out for red toenail polish and a sassy red dress! Hurry up warm weather!

Beatles 4Ever

In Fall 2009 my dad got a pair of these Clarks Desert Boots from the UK, and I just had to have a pair for myself!

My most recent acquisition of fabulosity...
